to a Better You

Welcome, my name is Bernice Weekes.  I am a fully registered Nutritional Therapist; with Inbody Nutrition I practise a holistic and practical approach to optimal health and wellness.  I look at all aspects of your lifestyle, which are connected to well-being and help you create a balanced life. Together, we will look at how to achieve and manage a Healthier You.

I understand that each person has unique food and lifestyle needs.  It is easy to overlook all the things that contribute to our sense of fulfilment and nourishment. It is not just the food we eat, but all the other factors present in our daily lives.  Healthy relationships, a fulfilling career, spiritual awareness and regular physical exercise are essential forms of nourishment.

A Healthier You

The benefit of coming to Inbody Nutrition you will gain knowledge of how the right foods can support you mentally and physically. Nutrients do not work in isolation in the body, therefore, with a balance of high quality whole grains, proteins, essential fats, vegetables, fruit and water; this will assist nutrients to work together synergistically.

I only use high spectrum nutritional supplements where possible and I use functional testing to further investigate.

How may I help?

I specialise in helping people struggling with Menopause, Weight loss, Stress and Men’s Health. Therefore if you need guidance on any of the above, I will work with you to create a long lasting and effective plan in order to achieve a vibrant Healthier You.

I will guide you through with natural, beneficial and vital tools, by establishing the right habits, so you can overcome any obstacles along your journey. All of my programmes are tailored to you.

Perimenopause and Menopause Symptoms

What is Perimenopause?

The transition into menopause is known as perimenopause. In your late 30s your egg supply begins to decline in quality and number. During this period, many women ovulate irregularly, indicating changes in their mensual cycle. The decreased hormone production, estrogen and progesterone, can cause unwanted symptoms. The transition period is a different experience for each woman and may occur with or without any signs.

What is Menopause?

The natural absence of menstrual period for 12 months, consecutively, defines the bodies natural transition from perimenopause to menopause. It is a normal part of ageing and culturally, I think, should be viewed in a positive light with a sense of personal empowerment; emerging wiser, healthier, and stronger in both mind and body.

The menopause generally takes place between the ages of 45 and 55 but for some it can start much earlier or as late as 60.

However an early onset menopause can be surgically induced from removal of the ovaries or a total hysterectomy.

If your going through the perimenopausal stage or the menopause you may be familiar with the following symptoms:

  • Irregular periods/ prolonged or excessive bleeding/ mild spotting
  • Hot flushes (a sudden feeling of warmth that spreads over the body)
  • Night sweats and or / cold flushes
  • Insomnia
  • Emotional changes (irritability, mood swings, mild depression)
  • Osteoporosis (long term health risk associated with menopause)
  • Headaches, especially premenstrually
  • Weight gain
  • Low sex drive
  • Difficulty concentrating, memory lapses (often temporary)
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Depression
  • Dry skin

I will customise a personalised nourishing and wholesome plan to help alleviate your symptoms and minimise the impact that ‘the change’ has on your quality of your life. You will be guided with options to manage your symptoms, to help restore back vibrant health and to feel full of life that you deserve.

I will also look at each body system, such as the adrenals, liver and thyroid function, to ensure you are as healthy as possible as you go through ‘your next season of life’.

The effects of improving and supporting your health through this time will be immense and I look forward to sharing the journey with you.

Stress (Tired and Fatigue)

What is stress?

Stress can be defined as the way you feel and when you’re under abnormal pressure. It can affect us mentally and physically.

Stress can be either acute or long term. Long-term stress is particularly dangerous. A state of continual stress eventually wears the body out because of its effect on immune response, stress increases susceptibility to illness and slows healing.

How can I help you?

By digging deeper to find the root cause and as part of your assessment we will look at your triggers and contributing factors, as well as any underlying imbalances such as adrenal hormones. Following this, you will be given a specific nutritional plan and advice to follow - which may also outline lifestyle changes such as physical activity coupled with the right mindset. This will play an important role in stress management for the long-term.

If you suspect that your fatigue or tiredness is linked to your adrenal glands, the easiest way to find out is to have an adrenal stress test, which measures stress hormone levels at different times of the day from saliva samples.

Effects of stress

If you are feeling stressed, it is very likely that you have experienced the following psychological and physical changes:

Effects of stress on the mind:

  • Mood swings.
  • Feeling short tempered and prone to snapping at people.
  • Becoming withdrawn.
  • Agitation and irritability.
  • Anxious or racing thoughts.
  • Constant worrying.
  • Nervous habits (e.g. nail biting, pacing).
  • Loss of concentration and focus.
  • Feeling over emotional.

Effects of stress on the body:

  • Muscle tension.
  • Aches and pains.
  • Nausea/dizziness.
  • Increased heart rate/palpitations.
  • Irritations such as rashes and eczema.
  • Appetite fluctuations.
  • Disturbed sleep/insomnia.
  • Comfort eating.
  • Feeling tired all the time.
  • Increased blood pressure.

These are typically the initial signs that stress is becoming a problem. If it is not effectively managed or treated, it can become chronic, and over time can cause serious harm to health and well-being.

What we eat can affect the way we feel in both the short- and long-term.

There are many ways that foods can affect how we feel, just as how we feel has a large influence on what foods we choose. Learn with me, how to get back on track, how to avoid common pitfalls and get the right range of nutrients to support you.

Men's Health

Nowadays, most nutritional information is marketed towards women, therefore men don’t receive enough information about their own dietary needs. Coupled with mindfulness, which is important for everyone, but especially so for men as they often do not speak out with a study finding that 40% of men won’t talk to anyone about their health. Men are also less likely to pay attention to nutrition information when eating out.

I would like to help you find a way of living that really does support your health and wellbeing, not just a nice idea, but a reality that you can achieve. You will receive nutritional education, tailored specifically for men, lifestyle tips to get you back on the right track, relaxation techniques and exercise that best suits you.

Common men’s health concerns, that I can assist you with:

  • Stress
  • Low energy
  • Fitness
  • Weight loss
  • Elevated cholesterol and blood pressure
  • Depression/ feeling helpless/ low mood lasting two weeks or more
  • Prostate health
  • Virility
  • Sleep disorders

I can provide you with the tools you need to take a more active role in managing your wellness goals, and to guide you back to health and vitality.
